The Nunc Coepi Youth Group is the youth ministry of St. Peter Chanel parish. The Nunc Coepi youth group began on February 22, 2013.
The group hosts a variety of fun and spiritual activities for its members, such as bible studies, movie nights, Eucharistic Adoration, and family outings.
The goal of this ministry is to help teens encounter Christ in a personal and powerful way. We hope that they will make Christ an important part of their lives, as they work towards becoming saints!
The youth group gathers in Room 103 of the St. Joseph Building every 1st and 3rd Friday from 7 pm-8:30 pm, and on occasion, will have outings outside of the parish. To get connected with the group and for more information, please contact Irma at 562.305.8497.
'Nunc Coepi' is a Latin phrase that means 'Now I Begin', and it can also be translated to mean 'Begin Again.' It is a popular saying of Venerable Pio Bruno Lanteri, the founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, the religious priests who staff our parish.
Venerable Lanteri's words remind us that we should never give up hope on God and ourselves, and that, by God's grace, we can always begin again (nunc coepi). No sin, no weakness, is greater than Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Through God - in His Chuch and the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation - we can find the graces that we need to become great saints!
Our youth ministry wants to help our teens know that God's grace is greater than any sin or weakness that they may be struggling with. By finding freedom that is only truly found in Christ, a teen can find real joy in Jesus, His Blessed Mother and His Church. Nunc Coepi! Now I begin!
Our youth group is blessed to have a dedicated and talented group of young people who support the youth ministry in its activities.
When the teens turn 18, they are invited to support the youth ministry as Support Team members, to help other teens to experience the same graces that they received while being members of Nunc Coepi.
All Support Team members are required to complete a VIRTUS training, as outlined by policies of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. They also need to be faithful practicing Catholics, and are required to do regular spiritual formation, including a yearly retreat.
The presence of other young people help our teens to recognize that God calls everyone, regardless of their age, to a path of holiness. And that a relationship with Christ is something that they can start working on now, and it's the best thing that they can hope to receive!
