Saint Peter Chanel helps the poor of the parish by providing them with basic staple food items like rice & beans, chicken, canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, sugar, pasta, tomato sauce, fresh bread, tortillas, sweet Mexican bread as well as fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits. This help is given every five weeks to families with small children and to others in need. Food is purchased with donations from the parishioners.

Food is bagged every Monday night by volunteers and by the Confirmation candidates, who earn community service hours for their assistance. Volunteers distribute the food at the church on Tuesday mornings.

Families in need of this program complete an application on the day of the distribution. They are required to attend to pray the Rosary. They are given food the same day that they apply and enter the program, and are told that a visitation team of 2 volunteers will visit their homes to qualify them. The church keeps a database of the families.

A significant part of this program is the Christmas baskets give-away and the presents for all the children registered. Church volunteers will fill the baskets with food and wrap presents, as well as deliver them to the families in the days before Christmas

La iglesia de San Pedro Chanel ayuda a los pobres de la parroquia dandoles una bolsa de comida que consiste principalmete en arroz, frijoles, pollo, enlatados de carne, frutas y vegetales, cereal, azucar, pasta, pan de barra y pan mexicano, tortillas, salsa de tomate, frutas y vegetales frescos de acuerdo a la estación y otros alimentos. Esta ayuda se les da cada cinco semanas a familias con niños pequeños y otras personas necesitadas. Esto se paga con dineros donados por los feligreses de la parroquia.

Las bolsas se llenan los lunes por voluntario y también por los jovenes que se están preparando para la confirmación. Los martes, la comida se distribuye aquí en la Iglesia por voluntarias.

Las familias que quieran entrar a este programa deben llenar un aplicación los días de la distribución. Ellas deberán atender al rezo del Santo Rosario en la Iglesia.  Se les dará una bolsa ese mismo día, y se les notifica que serán visitadas por dos voluntarias para determinar si en realidad califican para este programa. La iglesia mantiene una base de datos de estas familias.

Uno de los elementos más importantes de este programa es la distribución de canastas de comida como también regalos durante la navidad para los hijos de las familias registradas. Voluntarios de la parroquia llenan estas bolsas y envuelven los regalos para entregarlos personalmente a las casas en los dias antes de la Navidad.
